Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted, is holding events to mark World AIDS Day, Dec. 1.
At 10 a.m, The Keiskamma Art Project Tapestry will be unveiled. Designer Nozeti Makhubalo, who was in Chicago for the presentation of the Keiskamma Altarpiece (a response to the AIDS epidemic in a South African community) at Chicago’s St. James Cathedral, was inspired to create the tapestry after visiting the Center. Michael Leppen, who commissioned the tapestry, is expected to be present.
In addition, Chicago Opera Vanguard, in partnership with the Center, will present the world premiere of The Chicago AIDS Quilt Songbook at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20-$40; see www.CenterOnHalsted.org.
