South African runner Caster Semenya has announced that she is returning to athletic competition, according to CBSSports.com.
Semenya has not competed or spoken publicly since winning the women’s 800 at the Berlin world championships last August, when her dramatic results and physique led the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to order her to take gender tests. She reluctantly agreed to put off racing until the IAAF results came out, but the federation is still reviewing results and Semenya refused to wait any longer.
On March 30, Semenya was not allowed to run in Stellenbosch, South Africa, despite her coach and attorney pleading with officials. Other race organizers are not certain if they will let Semenya run if the IAAF has not granted permission for her to do so.
