Scissor Sisters return with their third album, Night Work, due out June 29th in the U.S. and on June 28th in all other countries. The band, which has sold over seven million albums worldwide, recorded it in London, the Bahamas and its hometown of New York City, working for the first time with an outside producer, Stuart Price (The Killers, Madonna). This collaboration sees the group’s relationship with Price come full circle – Scissor Sisters opened for his band Zoot Woman in 2004, while on their first UK tour.
“Invisible Light,” a track from the upcoming record, will be streaming today onlyat www.scissorsisters.com. Fans can also check out the cover art for Night Work at the band’s website. See below for the complete track listing. The band debuted many of its new songs at SXSW last month and will announce tour plans shortly.
Night Workis a dynamic album with a big heart and some killer dance moves – but it’s not all electronic. You can still hear the sound of a band spinning out together in a rehearsal room. “Night Workis really us boiled down to who we are. It feels quintessentially us,” says Jake Shears, who handles vocals along with Ana Matronic. Babydaddy (guitarist/bassist/keyboardist) and Del Marquis (guitarist) complete the lineup and all four are founding members of the band.
“Scissor Sisters are one of the most improbable and endearing success stories of recent years,” said Rolling Stone. Night Workfollows the band’s tremendously successful 2006 album, Ta-Dah, which debuted at No. 1 on the UK album chart while lead track “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin'”simultaneously topped the UK singles chart. Pitchforkhailed Ta-Dahas “Even more streamlined, pop-minded, and high-spirited than their 2004 self-titled debut, it’s as if they’re single-mindedly attempting to depose the world’s problems with a rigorous dance and good times regimen.”
Scissor Sisters’ first album – which allmusic.com called “one of the catchiest debuts of the new millennium” – was the best-selling album in the UK in 2004 and earned the band three BRIT awards the following year. Stateside, Scissor Sistersperformed on “Saturday Night Live” and enjoyed success at pop radio with “Take Your Mama,” which was licensed by numerous TV shows, including “Heroes” and “Big Love.” “Filthy/Gorgeous” became a club hit and was used in “Nip/Tuck” and as the theme song for “Kath & Kim.”
