Singer Natalie Merchant—who was part of the band 10,000 Maniacs—will appear at Borders, 150 N. State, on Thursday, July 22, at 12:30 p.m. to sign copies of her latest musical project, Leave Your Sleep. (She will be performing that evening at 8 p.m. at The Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State.)
With 10,000 Maniacs, Merchant released two platinum and four gold records during 1981-93, including In My Tribe and Blind Man’s Zoo. She went solo in 1994, releasing CDs such as Tigerlily (1995), which sold 4 million copies. She has collaborated with musicians ranging from Mavis Staples to Tracy Chapman to Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
