Abbott’s FDA-approved ARCHITECT HIV Ag/Ab Combo assay is now available at its first locations across the United States, according to a press release.
This test is a first-of-its-kind HIV diagnostic test that simultaneously detects HIV antigens and antibodies, allowing patients to be diagnosed earlier than ever. Earlier detection is a significant advance for controlling the spread of the virus, since individuals are most infectious in the earlier stages of infection.
The FDA approved the test June 18. The assay can now be found at more than 100 sites throughout the country in 15 states.
Regionally, the test is at Little Company of Mary Hospital (Evergreen Park) ; Rush University Medical Center (Chicago) ; Childrens Memorial Hospital (Chicago) ; Freeport Memorial Hospital (Freeport) ; Northshore Clinical Laboratories (Chicago) ; Sherman Hospital (Elgin) ; Riverside Hospital (Kankakee) ; Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center (Chicago) ; Norwegian American Hospital (Chicago) ; Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago) ; Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science (North Chicago) ; and Pss World Medical, Inc. (Elgin).
