The office of the press secretary to the president of the United States issued a statement naming nominees for key administrative posts. According to a letter from the Joffrey Ballet, company chairman Fred Eychaner was nominated as general trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ board of trustees in Washington, D.C.

Eychaner, who is openly gay, is the founder and chairman of Alphawood Foundation and of Newsweb Corporation. He previously served as a director of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and as secretary and director of the Auditorium Theatre Council. He is presently chairman of the Joffrey Ballet and a life trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago.

In a statement, President Obama said the nominees “will bring a wealth of experience to their new roles. I am confident they will serve the American people well, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”
