A Gay in the Life: CJ Garcia, Hairstylist

CJ’s day begins with a fresh cup of coffee enjoyed out on the pier located along the Chicago River, which flows right behind his apartment. This idyllic spot affords him a view of the passing trains, which he enjoys watching each morning. “It’s kind of my form of meditation; it helps me center myself and begin my day with a good attitude and a clear mind.”

After a short bus ride, CJ arrives at Robert Jeffrey Hair Studio in Wicker Park, where he has an appointment for a quick trim and a blowout with one of his many regulars. As they catch up, they discuss her business meetings, upcoming events and, of course, men. “Usually just hers but occasionally we’ll dive into mine,” admits CJ.
