Aetna recently gave $10,000 to the 2011 Gay Softball World Series that begins in Chicago Aug. 29, 2011. This series, brought here by the Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association (CMSA), is the world’s largest LGBT-sporting event.

“We’re excited to play host to more than 150 teams and 4,000 participants from around the U.S. and Canada,” said Brian Marsella, Aetna’s vice president of national accounts in the Midwest. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase our city and suburbs. Games will be played in St. Charles, Schaumburg and Elmhurst. We’re very happy to be one of the sponsors and to help make this series a reality.”

Aetna employs more than 300 people in the Chicago area and was rated this year by DiversityInc as one of the Top 10 companies for LGBT employees. The company is noted for its relationship with the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA), and for placing the GLMA link on the Aetna website, thus providing Aetna members with access to GLMA’s database of health care providers.
