The record-breaking storm temporarily paralyzed the city, with some businesses not fully resuming until Feb. 4 or even later. Some businesses that are typically slow this time of the year, such as restaurants, were not hurt too bad financially. However, others were devastated; for example, Juan Castro of the UPS store in Andersonville (whose canopy collapsed under the snow) said that only one person came to the store all day on Feb. 3, with traffic improving a bit the following day. Joe O’Brien of Parkview Pets, 5358 N. Broadway, said, that business on the Monday before the storm “was huge—as busy as a busy Saturday. Tuesday [Feb. 1] was good business; [Feb. 3] was kinda slow.”
In a look back to the storm, several individuals submitted photographs of what occurred—and was left behind. Photographers include Andrew Davis, Martie Marro, Ryan Kolodziej, Michael Vaughan, Rick Aguilar, RoiAnn Phillips and Gabriel Michael.
