Jay Hammerman, a pharmacist and the owner of Jay’s Save Rite Thorndale Pharmacy, has been charged with two counts of health care fraud, according to a press release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Hammerman, 62, allegedly planned and took part in a scheme to defaud healthcare insurance providers (including Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicaid, among others) by submitting reimbursement claims for prescription medications that were never dispensed. Hammerman reportedly made more than $200,000 this way.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel Hammerman, who is not related to the defendant, is representing the government in this case.
Jay’s Save Rite Thorndale Pharmacy has a large gay clientele.
