For the 17th consecutive year, AIDS Legal Council of Chicago honored local individuals and organizations with its Advocates of the Year Awards, taking place March 10 at the Joffrey Ballet, 8 E. Randolph St. Each year, ALCC chooses members of the community whose efforts stand out in the fields of AIDS care and advocacy.
Starting this year, ALCC partenered with Windy City Times to present the awards. The recipients included the law firm of Kirkland and Ellis LLP, which has provided pro bono legal services for ALCC’s clients. Also honored were four individuals: AIDS United’s Jessica Terlikowski; Blake Max, PharmD and Arick Buckles of CORE Center; and The Children’s Place Association CEO Cathy Krieger.
The event was hosted by Jerry Glover and included special remarks by ALCC ED Ann Hilton Fisher, Esq. and Windy City Times art director Kirk Williamson. The audience was also treated to a special performance by spoken-word artist Lisa Buscani, who wrote a special piece just for the night’s event.
