Artists, architects and designers were contacted to create the birdhouses and art for the auction.
Chicago House Manager of Special Events and Fundraising Jeremy Hilborn said, “The reason they wanted to do birdhouses is that birdhouses are representative of the Chicago House mission in finding shelter for those who need it.” The event had raised more than $20,000 before the guests even arrived, through corporate sponsorship and early ticket sales. More than 250 people attended.
About 55 birdhouses were auctioned off, along with photographs and paintings. The event also offered other prizes such as a European cruise package, skincare from Kiehls and fragrances from Sephora as well as a massage raffle from Michael Anthony Salon Spa.
Room & Board and Bays English Muffins presented the event. Sponsors included the Sara Lee Foundation, Grey Goose, Orbitz, FIJI, GRAB, Best Gay Chicago, J&L Catering, and ChicagoPride. Text by Constance Ruholl and photos by Hal Baim; see more images at WindyCityTimes.com
