The first day for filing petitions is always exciting, but this year it will also be historic.

For the first time in Cook County’s history, all women will be running for three of the top offices. Incumbent Dorothy Brown is seeking re-election for clerk of the Circuit Court. Anita Alvarez also is seeking re-election for state’s attorney and state Rep. Karen Yarbrough is seeking to replace Eugene Moore for recorder of deeds. Moore, who has held the seat for 13 years, is retiring from office.

The election for these offices will be March 20, 2012.
