Tori Amos played classics and classical music at the Chicago Theatre this past weekend on a Night of Hunters tour. Thomas Dybdahl opened with an acoustic set. Her openers have been ones to watch out for such as Rufus Wainwright.

As the red-haired songstress entered the stage with her four string quartet she began with “Shattering Sea” then sang Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.” She shot her middle finger in the air a few times in the show the first time during the lyrics of “Bachelorette.” She mixed new songs off the current album with past favorites that finally brought the audience to their feet. Her set list is always varied and Amos mentioned that because it was Christmas in Chicago that we would be treated to a longer show.

The acoustics of the theatre were perfect for her and her traditional dueling pianos played by herself never gets old. “1,000 Oceans” was meant to be played live and “Leather” seemed as fresh today as when it was first released many years ago. Audience members were crying, hooting, and hollering throughout the evening. She returned for an encore of “Winter” and “Father Lucifer” closing with “Big Wheel” before hitting the road on her tour bus to Canada.
