AIDS United has announced its participation in the Coalition for National HIV Awareness Day, a group of national HIV/AIDS organizations that is establishing July 2012 as National HIV Awareness Month.
The goal of National HIV Awareness Month is to engage civil society and the private sector in the U.S. to create broad-scale public awareness of HIV/AIDS, end HIV stigma and discrimination and engage new stakeholders in the fight against the disease, with the ultimate goal of ending the epidemic.
“July 2012—the month that marks the first time the International AIDS conference will take place in the United States in more than 20 years—is the perfect time to observe the first National HIV Awareness Month,” said Mark Ishaug, AIDS United President and CEO. “We must remember that HIV/AIDS is far from over right here the United States. Significant scientific and policy advances have put its end in our sights, but we MUST continue to make significant investments in those advances to propel us to that end.”
