Former U.S. Ambassador James C. Hormel was in Chicago for two events Jan. 25, one at his alma mater, University of Chicago (class of 1958) and one a booksigning at the Book Cellar. Several dozen students and staff at the university heard his lecture about becoming the country’s first openly gay ambassador, to Luxembourg in 1999. The focus of the speech was on his new book, Fit to Serve.
