The Belle Brigade is a rock/folk group made up of siblings Barbara and Ethan Gruska. The duo arrived at Lincoln Hall over the weekend. After opening for k.d. lang over the summer at Ravinia and hitting our city again at the Metro, this is the band to watch.

They played several tracks from their self-titled album, such as “Sweet Louise” and the rocking “Where Not to Look for Freedom.” The energy was high throughout their set and openly lesbian singer Barbara covered her shoestring wrapping around the fret of her guitar by making it look like a dance move!

While performing on a cruise ship recently, the two came up with a new song that they debuted onstage with lyrics like “I’ve seen the straight turn bi and the bi turn gay and the fish fly.” Count me in!

They closed with “Loser,” which is about freeing yourself as a listener to being bullied and picked on.
