The Chicago Academy for the Arts celebrated its 30th anniversary May 10.

The evening began with a free public performance of the CAA Repertory Dance Company and rock group Semi Precious Weapons at the Harris Theater. Openly gay front man Justin Tranter—an alumnus of the academy—worked the show in heels even doing the splits.

Afterwards, the crowd moved next door to the Millennium Park Terrace, where everyone sampled food under a white tent. Several past contestants on Bravo’s Top Chefs—including Dale Levitski, Stephanie Izard and Chris Jones—were on hand to provide delicious cuisine. Many went back for seconds os Top Chef Master Takashi Yagihashi’s fried chicken dish from the Slurping Turtle.

During the live auction a private dinner at the home of Rick Bayless sold for more than $20,000. Guests headed over for coffee and dessert on their home to end the night. For more information, visit www.ATasteForTheArts.org. Photos and text by Jerry Nunn
