Chicago, IL May 23, 2012. After the several deaths of Chicago Public School children through out the year, south side families see a ray of hope coming from Anita Davis Dance Theatre’s annual dance camp funded by the 2nd annual fundraiser, Dancing With The Queer Stars.

The event, and the free camp is the brainchild of the artistic director of Anita Davis Dance Theatre, LaNita Joseph. Dancing With The Queer Stars is a diverse ballroom dance competition where local queer stars team up to compete in ballroom style dance.

“I want to give people the opportunity to do something great for children who need it while also inspiring people of different colors, sizes and sexuality to fellowship through dance.”

Dancers include gay hall of fame legend, Jackie Anderson, actress Basha Evans, Trans-woman activist Kokumo, socialite David Dodd and many more! The event will be co-hosted by Chicago’s own C.C Carter and Brandee ‘Starra’ Young.

Anita Davis Dance Theater is a non-for profit performance/educational group that promotes a positive self-image through theater art, media, poetry and dance. Our performances are as original and innovative as they are dynamic and conceptually strong. We always have a positive message and our goal is to inspire individuals to love their true identity and accept the identities of others. Our goal is to expose as many people as possible to this message, especially women, LGBTQ community, people of color and in urban communities. In order for us to better reach people in underserved communities we are based in the heart of the south side of Chicago. Anita Davis Dance Theater teaches workshops and performs throughout the city.
