Actor Chris Colfer arrived at Macy’s on State Street July 21 in a limousine to be greeted by over 500 fans, some who had waited since 9 p.m. the night before.

The Glee star was there to sign copies of his new 448-page children’s book The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell. The adventure book combines the modern world with a fantasy realm for young readers. This was definitely a young teen event, with possibly older readers attending his appearance the night before at Barnes and Noble in Skokie.

The Golden Globe winner did chat for a few minutes with attendees, and many brought him gifts and homemade signs. Word has it that Colfer will return to Glee for the new season even though his character, the openly gay Kurt, graduated from the school that’s the focus of the show. Colfer was recently honored as one of the 2011 Time Magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Photos and text by Jerry Nunn
