Halsted Vodka, which was founded to give back 15% of its profits to GLBT causes, today announced that the first recipient of its GLBT community-building charitable donations is the Legacy Project of Chicago. The Legacy Project is spearheading the installation of the new LEGACY WALK outdoor “museum-scape” on North Halsted Street celebrating GLBT contributions to world history and culture. The Legacy Walk is being dedicated during a special ceremony on Oct. 11, 2012 — “National Coming-Out Day.”

CELEBRATING GLBT HEROES

“Halsted Vodka is delighted to make our first-ever donation to the Legacy Project,” said Halsted spokesperson Jennifer Schulze. “Both Halsted Vodka and the Legacy Project believe in shining a bright light on the amazing people past and present in the GLBT community.”

The Legacy Project will dedicate the Legacy Walk and the plaques honoring 18 GLBT heroes on October 11th beginning at 2pm on North Halsted Street. Halsted Vodka will officially present its donation to the Legacy Project as part of this special event.

“We welcome Halsted Vodka to Chicago’s GLBT community and commend its important mission of giving back 15% of its profits to help organizations like the Legacy Project,” said Victor Salvo, Executive Director of the Legacy Project. “This unique business model translates the company’s success directly into a tangible benefit for community organizations. In these rough economic times all non-profits are seeking new and creative ways to meet their funding goals. We are proud and honored to be the beneficiaries of Halsted Vodka’s inaugural donation. That it is tied to the inaugural dedication of the Legacy Walk is only fitting — because Halsted is the home we share.”

The Legacy Walk — an international, multicultural installation — will consist of a series of 18″ x 24″ cast bronze plaques affixed to the celebrated “Rainbow Pylons” which define the “Northalsted Corridor” as the center of Chicago’s diverse GLBT population. Each plaque will bear a laser-cast image of an inductee along with a 300-word biographical paragraph that explores the individual’s contributions.

HALSTED VODKA IS A NEW CONCEPT IN SPIRITS

Drinking responsibly is taking on a completely new meaning with Halsted Vodka. 15% of Halsted Vodka’s founding equity and 15% of its operating profits are dedicated to GLBT community building and human rights.

This luxury vodka is hand distilled in small batches using a recipe of All-American grain and clear Rocky Mountain water. Rare glass stills are used to help Halsted Vodka achieve exceptional levels of smoothness along with a full-bodied character worthy of the causes Halsted Vodka supports.

Halsted Vodka will be available beginning October 2012 in establishments that support and honor the GLBT community including Sidetrack Chicago; Halsted’s Bar & Grill, Hydrate and Minibar: Chicago all on North Halsted Street.
