It was a blast from the past this week in Chicago with several ’80s pop singers returning to give concerts and make appearances locally.

“A” is for Adam Ant who just followed ancient history and “Stripped” for a sold out crowd at the Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville on Saturday Night. His set list was long appeasing longtime fans where played obscure songs as well as the hits “Wonderful” and “Antmusic.”

“B” is for Bananarama, who may have had the gayest crowd of the bunch at the Hard Rock Cafe for the “Pinktober” benefit for breast cancer. When the members called some fans to dance onstage, the girls even asked if there were any straight men in the audience. Of course, the duo (formerly a trio) sang “I Heard a Rumour” and “Venus,” and will celebrate their 30th anniversary together soon.

“C” is for Cyndi Lauper, who is in town producing music for Kinky Boots the Musical before it makes a Broadway debut in New York. This ’80s pop star met fans at Downtown Bar & Lounge for the AIDS Legal Council of Chicago reception followed by attendees seeing the musical the same evening.

All of these artists continue to satisfy followers that always hunger for more from these superstars of that time period. Photos and text by Jerry Nunn
