The annual worldwide event marks the passages of transgender people worldwide who were murdered over the course of the year.
Community members stood for a solemn candlelight reading of those names, hosted by aChurch4Me? Metropolitan Community Church.
“One of the things I notice, reading over the names, there’s quite a few of them,” said Rev. Gordon McCoy who led the service.
Two Chicagoans—Tiffany Gooden and Paige Clay—were among those named as attendees cried quietly.
The evening concluded with prayer and song.
