(Chicago, January 2, 2013) — The Lakeview Orchestra, a new community orchestra that will be rehearsing and performing at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lakeview, today filed for incorporation under Illinois law and announced its Spring 2013 concerts. The orchestra’s mission is to educate, engage, and entertain audiences through music, provide an opportunity for Chicago area musicians to perform, and to strengthen the understanding of and appreciation for classical music in the Lakeview community and beyond. Gregory Hughes will serve as Artistic Director of the forty-five piece full orchestra.

The Lakeview Orchestra will kick-off its Spring concert season on February 5, 2013 at 7:30pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (1218 West Addison Street) with Music Discovery: Elgar’s Enigma. The concert will tell the unique story of Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations through collaboration with visual artists and interactive audience participation. Assistant Conductor Josh Mather will lead the orchestra for the performance.

Board President, Gregory Zinkl, stated, “The enthusiasm to build this organization has been fantastic. We have had over 20 people, musician and non-musician community members, pitch in to get us going. We are looking forward to an exciting first season, and a history that will be noteworthy for the diverse Lakeview community.”

Craig Mueller, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran, noted, “Holy Trinity has a long history of supporting new artistic organizations. We are pleased to be part of the early history of the Lakeview Orchestra and look forward to a relationship that benefits the two organizations and the Lakeview community.”

“The talent, enthusiasm, creativity and ability to see new musical and artistic adventures of our members energizes me. It is a privilege to work with such gifted artists and community members,” said Gregory Hughes, Artistic Director.

The orchestra will be exploring alternative ticket payment policies, concerto and conducting competitions, and new music commissions.
