Elgin Police have announced an arrest for the murder of Lisa Koziol-Ellis, a well known LGBTQ ally and artist who was found stabbed to death in her Elgin townhome March 2.
Paul Johnson, 34, is facing four counts of first degree murder, one count of home invasion and one count of residential burglary for the murder, according to a statement put out by Elgin Police.
Johnson lived in the same building as Koziol-Ellis.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Johnson allegedly broke into the townhouse to steal a DVD player and then stabbed Koziol-Ellis when confronted.
Her husband, Dash Ellis, returned from work and found her dead. The couple had moved into the townhouse just three days earlier.
Koziol-Ellis was well-known in Chicago’s LGBTQ community. She rode in the Pride Parade with Dykes on Bikes each year and was active in city’s queer burlesque scene.
Friends and family have been fundraising to offer reward money.
