When it came time for out composer Ricky Ian Gordon to record his song collection Silver Rain based upon the celebrated poetry of out Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes, he turned to soprano Nicole Cabell, the 2005 winner of the BBC Singer of the World competition and an alumna of the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Ryan Opera Center. So if you’re a Silver Rain fan, be sure not to miss Cabell in concert at the Ravinia Festival with Gordon himself playing the piano. Nicole Cabell and Ricky Ian Gordon perform 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the Ravinia Festival’s Martin Theatre, 418 Sheridan Rd., Highland Park.
