Illinois Unites for Marriage, the statewide coalition of advocacy groups working towards same-sex marriage equality, announced that a one-day “moneybomb” fundraising push would take place Oct. 7.

During a “moneybomb” campaign, participants unite to focus their mailing lists on a particular effort, in this case updating their readers of the progress of SB10 and asking them to consider a financial contribution for the cause.

Among those elected scheduled to take part in the campaign are Lt. Governor Sheila Simon; Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle; State Sen. Toi Hutchinson; State Sen. Kwame Raoul; State Sen. Mike Frerichs; State Senators Heather Steans, Melinda Bush, Daniel Biss, Don Harmon, and Julie Morrison; State Representatives Scott Drury, Elaine Nekritz, Robyn Gabel, Sara Feigenholtz, and Laura Fine; Chicago Alderman James Cappleman; Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Mike Cabonargi; Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin; Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Debra Shore, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering; Springfield Alderman Cory Jobe; Highland Park Alderman Alyssa Knobel; Retired State Sen. Jeff Schoenberg; and more.

“In two weeks, Illinois lawmakers return to Springfield for fall veto session. We’re closer than ever to passing this crucial legislation to protect thousands of families across our state,” said Nancy Kohn, Illinois Unites’ finance director in a statement. “Illinois couples who are being excluded from marriage shouldn’t have to wait any longer. The time is now.”

“Illinois Unites for Marriage has been working around the clock to make history this year; knocking on doors, making phone calls and sharing stories of the harms visited upon real families because of our current law,” added John Kohlhepp, Illinois Unites’ campaign manager. “With only two weeks to go before legislators return to Springfield, our state can’t wait much longer for the freedom to marry.”
