A marriage-equality service will be held Friday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1218 W. Addison St.
A gay couple will be married and 16 couples, both same- and opposite-sex, will renew vows from earlier marriages, civil unions or commitment services.
The Rev. Wayne Miller of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (headquarters in Chicago) will preside.
Holy Trinity’s two pastors are both gay and partnered, and will be among the 16 couples renewing vows.
In 2009 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America passed resolutions allowing partnered gay clergy to serve in ELCA congregations.
Holy Trinity has been a Reconciling in Christ congregation since 1990, publicly welcoming gays and lesbians into all avenues of participation and leadership in the church.
