CHICAGO, IL — ON Monday, December 22ND at 7 p.m. Women & Children First bookstore in Chicago’s iconic Andersonville neighborhood will be hosting playwright and author Sarah Ruhl for a reading, signing and discussion of her slyly brilliant new collection 100 Essays I Don’t Have Time to Write: On Umbrellas and Sword Fights, Parades and Dogs, Fire Alarms, Children, and Theater (Faber and Faber).
This hugely appealing book has something for everyone, but will especially resonate for artsy moms and dads trying to balance their creative endeavors with the joys and obligations of parenthood.
Sarah’s plays include In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play (Pulitzer Prize finalist, Tony Award nominee), The Clean House (Pulitzer Prize finalist, winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize); Passion Play, a cycle; Dead Man’s Cell Phone (winner of the Helen Hayes Award); and, most recently, Stage Kiss and Dear Elizabeth. She has been the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, the Helen Merrill Emerging Playwrights Award, the Whiting Writers’ Award, the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award for a midcareer playwright. She is currently on the faculty of the Yale School of Drama and lives in Brooklyn with her family.
This memorable evening is also the perfect way to check off the last-minute items on your holiday shopping list. Autographed books make excellent and thoughtful gifts.
