Fifth Third Bank held a community leader awards at the Chicago Cultural Center May 1. Bank President & CEO Robert A. Sullivan and Nicole Johnson-Scales, Fifth Third’s senior vice president of community development, presented the awards to eight individuals and one community organization, A Better Chicago.

The individual honorees were: Tracy Baim, publisher of Windy City Times, as representing the LGBT community; Chrishon Lampley, founder of Love Cork Screw Wines; Sherren Leigh, founder and publisher of Today’s Chicago Woman; Allen Lynch, Medal of Honor recipient; Antonio Ortiz, president of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School; Dr. Cheryl Whitaker, president & CEO of NextLevel Health; and Bernarda Wong, founder and president of the Chinese American Service League (she was unable to make the event so a colleague accepted on her behalf).

Each recipient was presented with $5,300 to give out in scholarships or other support. Baim split her funds between the GED program of Broadway Youth Center at Howard Brown Health Center, and Kasey, one of the three featured youth in the Chicago-made, award-winning documentary The Homestretch, about youth homelessness.
