AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) will hold its “Rally for a Positive Budget” on Wed., July 22, at 10 a.m. at the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St.
According to a press release, “With no budget, HIV/AIDS-related services that are normally approved by the state, including the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and the processing of HIV/STI tests by state labs, are in flux.”
AFC has called Gov. Bruce Rauner’s budget proposal “draconican,” adding that his idea “contained a $1.5 billion cut to Medicaid, a $6 million reduction to HIV funding representing a 25% cut and slashing the funding for the African American HIV/AIDS Response Act by 66% to $500,000.”
Also, this week, AFC, in partnership with DePaul University’s Master of Public Health program, is presenting the Public Health Boot Camp to 12 future HIV public health leaders. They will learn core public-health concepts for impacting HIV prevention and care activities through training, presentations and collaborative opportunities through July 16.
