Each year, Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) events throughout the world are held to honor the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence in the past year.

Below is a list of events taking place in Chicago and throughout Illinois Nov. 18-20. (The actual day is Nov. 20.):

Nov. 18

—Transgender Day of Remembrance will be held at Joliet Junior College, 6-8 p.m. The featured speaker will be Alexis Martinez, a Chicago Latina trans activist.

—There will be two events (12 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.) at the Chicago Theological Seminary. The special guest will be the Rev. Lawrence T. Richardson, a transgender pastor, leader and activist. There will be a live stream at www.youtube.com/user/CTSChicagoHD.

Nov. 19

—There will be a Transgender Day of Remembrance event at Northeastern Illinois University at 12 p.m. at the Pedroso Center, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave., Chicago.

—DeKalb’s Northern Illinois University will hold a candlelight vigil at 5 p.m., followed by open discussion and reception at the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center. The event will be at the Arndt House, at Normal Road and Lincoln Highway; call 815-753-4772.

Nov. 20

—TDOR 2015—an evening of reflection, discussion and advocacy—will take place Friday, Nov. 20, 6:30-8 p.m., on the third floor of the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St. Email afortman@centeronhalsted.org.

—Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois will host a remembrance 6-8 p.m. at Columbia College, 33 E. Congress Pkwy., Room 101. The event will include performances by Chicago-based trans artists and speakers as well as a memorial service to honor and celebrate the lives of trans people who have passed away in the last year.

—There will be a transgender-focused remembrance at 9 p.m. at Out in the Open Sleep Out Overnight, an event that aims to raise visibility and funds to help provide a stable living environment for youth experiencing homelessness. Speakers include individual teens. The entire event will be 6 p.m.-8 a.m. at Cricket Hill near Montrose Avenue and Lake Michigan. sleepoutchicago.org

—Northwestern University’s Multicultural Student Affairs department invites faculty/staff, students, post docs/docs, graduate students to honor the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
