—Home Run Inn: A recent revisit to this restaurant (at 3215 N. Sheffield Ave. in Chicago’s Lake View neighborhood) showed just why this place is so popular—loads of delightful food (especially the pizzas!).
—Smithsonian Channel’s Wild Wednesdays: Through Wed., Aug. 10, Smithsonian Channel offers Wild Wednesdays, an intriguing look at various creatures. Episodes include “Hunting the Hammerhead,” “Dragon Island,” “Viper Queens,” “Killer Hornet Swarm” and “Desert Warriors: Lions of the Namib.”
—Amy’s Kitchen: Even though I’m usually a hardcore carnivore, I have fallen in at least like (if not love) with Amy’s Kitchen, which has a line of organic vegetarian/vegan dishes available at the grocery store. Among the many dishes are chili mac, cheese enchiladas and the new swirls (in flavors such as cheddar jalapeno as well as artichoke and Parmesan).
—Slo ‘Mo Jams for Homos (And Their Fans): This local R&B/dancehall/disco dance party is held every third Thursday of the month at the Logan Square bar The Whistler. Check out SloMoParty.com.
