Hundreds attended the installation service of Rachel Weiss in her post as rabbi at Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston on Dec. 16. Weiss, who is a lesbian, was previously associate rabbi at Congregation Beth Simchat Torah in New York City but is an Evanston native. Among those in attendance at the event were Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis, Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who delivered opening remarks.
