Moonlight has been named film of the year by the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA), composed of more than 170 film and TV critics and entertainment journalists across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
GALECA announced the winners of its annual Dorian Awards on Jan. 26. Moonlight also won several other awards, including Best LGBTQ Film and Best Actor (for Mahershala Ali).
In addition, Viola Davis—recently named by GALECA as one of the 10 Best Actress of All Time—earned a best actress award for Fences. La La Land was named Visually Striking Film of the Year, while The Dressmaker was named Campy Flick of the Year.
On the TV side, Transparent was named TV Comedy of the Year, and Jeffrey Tambor won for TV Performance of the Year—Actor. Sarah Paulson won for TV Performance of the Year—Actress for portraying Marcia Clark in American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson.
The late Carrie Fisher was named Wilde Wit of the Year; Kate McKinnon and Lin-Manuel Miranda tied for Wilde Artist of the Year; and John Waters was previously announced as a Timeless Star.
