The film, set in present day, narrates the story of three friends – Haris, a gay painter; Vishnu, a rural kabaddi player and their friend Sia, an activist, as they struggle to find space and happiness in a conservative Indian city. The movie recreates in action the struggles of the young to gain space in the face of entrenched conservatism, predatory capitalism and community and class oppression in general. The film is in south-Indian Malayalam language with closed captioning in English.
The screening will be followed by an interactive Q&A session with the director, Jayan Cherian via skype and Chicago-based writer and activist, Yasmin Nair. $5 or more donation will go towards screening expenses.

About the director: Jayan Cherian, graduated with a MFA in filmmaking from the City College of New York. He has won multiple awards for his documentaries and full length features including the Kerala State Film Special Jury Award for best direction 2013 (India), Kerala Film Critics Association Award for Best Debut Director 2013 (India), Feature Narrative Award at Athens International Film+Video Festival 2013, Silver Jury Prize in San Francisco Shorts (2010) and Director’s Choice Award at Black Maria Film and Video Festival 2012. His films have been screened at international film festivals held at Berlin, Durban, BFI London, Nara-Japan, Rio-de-Janeiro, Kolkata, Montreal and many more.
