Longtime gossip columnist Liz Smith, who started her column at the New York Daily News more than four decades ago, has died at age 94.
Known as the “the Grand Dame of Dish,” Smith’s work included a chronicle of Donald and Ivana Trump’s divorce, which made front-page news. Her column began with the Daily News in 1976, and continued with New York Newsday and the New York Post, finishing there at age 86.
She came out as bisexual in her 2000 memoir Natural Blonde—something she dubbed “gender neutrality,” according to the Daily News. Among other honors, GLAAD awarded her with its Vito Russo Award in 2001. She won an Emmy for her reporting in 1985.
