Chicago —Experience the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale story we grew up reading, but with a new twist: Hansel was born a girl. This December, the tap dancers of jorsTAP chicago will take the stage at Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, one of Chicago’s most inclusive museums, to premiere Hansel and Gretel: How Hansel Became Hansel. This family-friendly performance will be filled with energizing tap dance, artistic collaboration and vibrantly creative atmosphere.

“Art helps people open their minds to possibility beyond what they have experienced in their lives,” Artistic Director Kendra Jorstad said. “The combination of an old-school folk tale with transgender identity issues showcases this story in an accessible, enjoyable way to families.”

Jorstad’s intention for the show is to provide safe space for families from all across the Chicagoland area to come together, have a shared experience and be more open to talking about transgender identity.

The props and scenery for the performance is created by artist David Lee Csicsko. Csicsko is an internationally known designer and artist, famous for his uses of geometric shapes and bold colors and patterns.

jorsTAP Chicago is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was established in 2012 to disrupt the preconceived notions of tap dance. The dance company creates art to evoke emotions and portray that tap dance is so much more than just footwork. Intuit is also a 501 (c)3 non-profit, established in 1991 and dedicated to presenting intuitive and outsider art.
