The annual PFLAG “Kisses from Mom” fundraiser at Sidetrack on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13, raised about $3,000.

PFLAGers handed out kisses (both chocolate and real) to patrons and passers-by and asked for donations. Fifty percent of the money that is raised at this event goes directly to the PFLAG Council and is used primarily for their spot in the Chicago Pride Parade. The other 50% is divided up amongst the chapters that volunteer.

“Kisses from Mom” Coordinator Marcia Prichason, from the Hinsdale PFLAG, said: “Volunteering for the ‘Kisses’ event is always personally satisfyin, as we receive such a warm welcome! There are also so many poignant stories.”

One PFLAG mom stated: “A young man said he had called his mom to wish her a happy Mother’s Day, but she would not talk to him.” Another man said with tears in his eyes that he had sent flowers to his mom and that she actually called him to say, “thank you.” Yet another proudly paraded his mother in front of him as he hugged and kissed all, saying, “this is my mom!”
