Gerber/Hart, Howard Brown to host 'Great Believers' discussion

On Wed., Jan. 16, 6-8 p.m., Howard Brown Health Clark and Gerber/Hart Library and Archives will host a discussion on The Great Believers with author Rebecca Makkai and Howard Brown Health President/CEO David Ernesto Munar, followed by a Q&A session and book-signing.

The event will take place at Howard Brown, 6500 N. Clark St.

The National Book Award finalist The Great Believers traces the events of the early AIDS crisis in Chicago and features details about Howard Brown in its early years. Makkai’s novel explores friendship and redemption in the face of tragedy in 1980s Chicago and contemporary Paris, and was featured in the 10 Best Books of 2018 by New York Times. Her short fiction won a 2017 Pushcart Prize, and was chosen for The Best American Short Stories for four consecutive years (2008-11).
