According to the newly released “2019 American Values Atlas” by PRRI, there has been a slight but noticeable decline in opposition to religiously-based refusals to provide business services to gay or lesbian people. This does not necessarily mean there is growing support for such religiously-based discrimination, it does have meaningful impact.
On Thursday April 23 at 3:30 p.m. Chicago time, PFLAG National will present its weekly “Something to Talk About Live” series on Facebook and YouTube, featuring Rev. Troy Perry, founder of the Metropolitan Community Church and Pastor Jay Bakker, son of Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker, founder of Revolution Church and 2012 PFLAG National Straight for Equality in FaithTM award honoree.
Rev. Perry and Pastor Bakker will discuss the role of LGBTQ+ affirming faith communities in expanding vocal opposition to discrimination. Moderating the conversation will be PFLAG National Learning and Inclusion Director Jean-Marie Navetta.
The two nationally-recognized faith leaders will weigh in on changes in American values that find it less objectionable than previously for businesses to claim religion-based discrimination policies. This live streaming discussion is part of PFLAG National’s weekly topic-driven series called, “”Something to Talk About Live.” These weekly events are part of a newly announced program called PFLAG Connects, which extends PFLAG’s support, education, and advocacy efforts further into digital space for its vast national chapter network.
