In East Hartford, Connecticut, the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) finished in its final match before departing for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics in style, defeating Mexico 4-0 on July 5 to wrap up the 2021 WNT Send-Off Series, presented by Visa, according to http://USSoccer.com.
The USWNT defeated Mexico by the same score July 1, in the same venue.
The U.S. prevailed in front of the 27,758 fans at Pratt & Rentschler Field—the largest crowd ever to watch the USWNT in Connecticut.
Lindsey Horan got things started quickly with a volley and Carli Lloyd added another just five minutes later on a diving header; Christen Press forced a Mexico own-goal (by Reyna Reyes) and Tobin Heath scored her second goal in her second game back from injury.
The USWNT now heads to Japan with a 44-match unbeaten streak—the second-longest in team history. The team had a 51-match unbeaten streak from December 2004 to September 2007.
