Including the work of two successive generations of Black artists, “Young, Gifted and Black” explores the lines of lineage and association in the ways contemporary artists of African descent impact the way we think about identity, politics, and art history itself.
Curated by writer/critic Antwaun Sargent and artist Matt Wycoff, this group exhibition features the work of more than 30 artists from the Lumpkin-Boccuzzi Family Collection of Contemporary Art, New York.
Bernard Lumpkin and Carmine Boccuzzi are the queer couple who own the collection, according to http://TriBeCaCitizen.com. They even produced a book, Young, Gifted and Black: A New Generation of Artists.
Some of the artists whose works will be displayed are Jordan Casteel, D’Angelo Lovell Williams, Jacolby Satterwhite, Derrick Adams, Kevin Beasley, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Sadie Barnette, Bethany Collins, Wardell Milan, Sable Elyse Smith, Henry Taylor, Mickalene Thomas, Cy Gavin, Chiffon Thomas, Kara Walker and Deana Lawson.
