The Jussie Smollett saga continues.
Almost three years since out actor Jussie Smollett (TV’s Empire; the film Alien: Covenant) was allegedly attacked in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, Cook County Judge James Linn said jury selection would begin Nov. 29, The Chicago Tribune reported.
The actor was first charged in early 2019, when authorities said he orchestrated a phony hate crime on himself in late January with the help of two brothers who are now key witnesses in the case against him. Cook County prosecutors initially charged Smollett with disorderly conduct, then abruptly dropped the case about a month later. Smollett, 39, had performed some community service ahead of the charges being dropped and agreed to forfeit his bond money to the city of Chicago in exchange for the case’s dismissal.
According to a statement Windy City Times received, the public and all the media are invited to all trial proceedings. However, no cameras will be allowed in the courtroom.
