In light of the emergence and spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the Unicorn Ball—which the Chicago trans organization Brave Space Alliance was hosting—has been postponed from Dec. 18, 2021, to March 2022.
A letter from Development Associate Katie Zhou read, “Serious questions have come up about our ability to host the annual Unicorn Ball fundraiser, and safeguard the health and safety of our community and attendees. During the planning stages of Unicorn Ball, Brave Space Alliance developed a robust safety protocol including requiring masks, instituting capacity limits, requiring guests to submit proof of vaccination prior to the event, strongly encouraging tests in advance, and conducting rapid COVID tests at the door.
“However the latest wave of cases and the lack of information about the Omicron variant have once again changed the calculus.”
Tickets that have been purchased will be honored at the March event.
The virtual Unicorn Ball Silent Auction remains live, however. The bidding continues until Sunday, Dec. 19; see http://www.trellis.org/unicornball/auction.
