Ke’Yahonna Stone, a 32-year-old trans woman and community advocate, died after being shot in the parking lot of an Indianapolis nightclub, LGBTQ Nation reported.
The shooting occurred early Dec. 26 outside the Epic Ultra Lounge. Stone remained on life support for a few days but her injuries were too serious.
Stone was recently hired to work at the Trans Solutions Research & Resource Center, which provides health and social services to trans and gender-nonconforming people.
According to http://PGHLesbian.com, the tragedy was compounded by Stone reportedly being friends with Eshay Key, a Black trans woman murdered on Christmas Day in 2020.
The website added that Stone is at least the fifty-first trans, non-binary or gender-nonconforming person reported killed in 2021; forty-five of these neighbors have been BIPOC. She is the 35th victim who identified as Black, and 30 of these victims were under the age of 30.
Police are still investigating. According to a Facebook post from Star Hoodrich, services for Stone will be held Friday, Jan. 7, at 2361 Broad Ripple Ave., in Indianapolis. (Windy City Times has not been able to independently verify this.)
