On Feb. 13, Veronica Burton hit two free throws in the closing seconds and Jillian Brown scored a career-high 18 points as unranked Northwestern (14-9, 6-6 Big Ten) upset fourth-ranked Michigan (20-4, 11-3) 71-69 in double overtime in NCAA women’s basketball action at Welsh-Ryan Arena, The Chicago Tribune noted.

The Wildcats had not beaten a team ranked this high since defeating No. 3 Long Beach State on Jan. 16, 1982.

Burton finished with 13 points and 13 assists. The Wolverines lost again after falling at rival Michigan State on Feb. 10.

Northwestern has another tough battle lined up Thursday, Feb. 17, at No. 7 Indiana.
