Team Canada’s Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice and Canada snatched gold back from the United States in a 3-2 win on Feb. 17 in Beijing, as the Americans failed to defend their Olympic crown from four years ago, USA Today noted. Poulin is the first player—male or female—to score in four gold medal games, per Hockey Canada.
The pings from two shots that hit the post—from Hannah Brandt and Alex Carpenter—will probably haunt Team USA for the next four years.
By the second period, Canada had jumped to a 3-0 lead—the largest between the teams in a Games since their first Olympic meeting in 1998, per NBC Sports. Team USA scored two goals but lost despite outshooting the Canadians 40-21.
—Closer to home, the Chicago Bulls (38-21) scored their fifth consecutive victory, defeating the Sacramento Kings (22-38) 125-118 at the United Center.
Chicago Bulls All-Star forward DeMar DeRozan stayed on a roll, scoring 38 points. He is now the first player in NBA history to score 35 points while shooting better than 50% from the field in seven consecutive games, per ESPN. DeRozan surpassed a mark set by Wilt Chamberlain, who put together two such streaks of six games in a row, the latter of which happened in 1963.
With the All-Star break this weekend, the Bulls won’t play again until Thursday, Feb. 24, when they’ll take on the Atlanta Hawks.
