According to a release, “BBBF is a submission-free, inclusive festival that celebrates the vibrant voices of filmmakers and performing artists, highlighting narratives often overlooked. By empowering underrepresented talents, BBBF nurtures a supportive community and drives positive change through impactful storytelling and performances.”

Founder Vici Howard added, “Facing high rejection rates and financial barriers, 90% of filmmakers encounter significant obstacles in festival circuits, with Black and Brown communities bearing the brunt. These challenges often prevent talented voices from gaining the recognition they deserve. BBBF is committed to addressing this disparity by offering free submissions, lowering barriers to entry, and spotlighting the innovative and powerful works of women-identifying filmmakers of color.”

Among the shorts that will be shown are “Color of Autumn,” about an 8-year-old Black girl from Chicago’s South Side in the ‘60s who experiences prejudice for the first time; and “N.E.W.,” which is about Nate Ethan Watson—the first transgender artist in the UK grime scene.
