On Aug. 6, 235 LGBTQ+ community members, allies and friends set sail at the 5th Annual Legacy Project Summer Yacht Party.

With the 200 N. Breakwater Access as a meeting point, the social event offered guests a three-hour boat ride on the Anita Dee II (a 140-foot-long yacht with formal seating for 120 guests) and an evening of food, drinks and dancing, with beats by DJ Myles and fireworks at Navy Pier as well.

The passing of LGBTQ+ activist Lori Cannon hung over the evening—though in an inspiring way. Cannon, who died Aug. 3, was one of the creators and founders of the Legacy Project along with her best friend Victor Salvo and author Owen Keehnen.

As a tip of the hat to Cannon’s accomplishments and legacy, she was remembered through a photo display with images from as far back as the early ‘80s. In a show of support the Legacy Projects Board of Directors (past and present) gathered at the Anita II’s aft section to sprinkle rose petals into the Lake.
